about

On November 8, 2011, or exactly seven years ago, Mytrip & Yhdarl played their first and last collaborative show in Sofia, Bulgaria. While some live video footage of the performance can be found online, the set itself wasn’t properly recorded. However, in preparation for the live, Belgian multi-instrumentalist Déhà and his Bulgarian counterpart Angel Simitchiev, recorded two long-form sessions constructed of pretty much the same source material that was used for the concert.

In their collaborative work, Mytrip & Yhdarl walk the very thin line between dark ambient, drone doom and noise. All throughout the tracks, one can easily recognise Déhà’s vocals. It has to be noted, however, that at the core of the music lie some severely mutilated and manipulated stems from from Yhdarl’s acclaimed 2011 full-length ‘Ave Maria’. This allows Angel Simitchiev’s typical aggressive ambient sound to reach an even bleaker grandeur.

The two sessions are now available via Kontingent Records under the name ‘Debris’, with the second track ‘Leper’ being exclusive for the tape version of the release. Maybe the documentation of this seven years old work will be the needed push for the pair to collaborate again. When the world starts spinning at its usual pace again, that is.
